Solar dehydrator
A solar dehydrator is extremely useful for fun, drying fruits and for candies, of course.
What is the big difference, you ask? well… did you ever by dried apples and feel they are soggy and soft? My dried apples are like chips – thin, hard and taste a LOT better! And the same goes for every fruit I dry in that dehydrator.
I HIGHLY recommend you make one – and I’ve made my first one using a cabinet someone threw away, a sheet of glass, stainless steel net and some rubber seal for windows. Total cost was under 20$ but you can easily make yours cheaper by using whatever glass you have and modifying the box to it’s size. The stainless net proved to be a bad idea – barbecue sticks for meet are wonderful and fruits don’t stick as well to these.
Here are the pro’s and Con’s:
Pro’s
Easy and fast build
Makes wonderful dried fruits and vegetables (and meat if you want!)
No power needed, zero electricity build
ZERO maintenance
Con’s
Takes a couple of days
Need protection from the rain (not, IF you build yours from steel and paint it).
Here is how I’ve built mine (in my other YT channel “smallathe”)
And here it is being used:
So go out and build one at nearly zero cost.
Trust me, it’s a wonderful tool, whether you make candies or not, and you will enjoy it!!!
Have a sweet build ; )
